Microneedling
A.k.a. collagen induction therapy is a minimally-invasive non-surgical, non ablative procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury. As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The controlled injury triggers the body to fill these micro-wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Professional skin needling is considered to be one of the safest skin treatment procedures.

Microneedling FAQs
What is microneedling?
In microneedling, Dr. Bolton creates tiny punctures in your upper layers of skin using a specialized tool. This triggers your body to start the healing process, including shedding damaged skin and producing new collagen.
The type of microneedling used at Maximum Wellness MD, Vivace RF, is one of the latest and most-advanced microneedling systems available. Vivace RF combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy treatment to give you the benefits of both kinds of treatment at once.
How does microneedling with radiofrequency work?
Before treatment, Dr. Bolton applies a topical anesthetic to the treatment area. This allows for a virtually pain-free treatment. Once your skin feels numb, Dr. Bolton controls the robotic treatment device to carefully insert the small group of microneedles in the skin.
With the needles in place, the Vivace RF machine sends radiofrequency waves through your skin. Dr. Bolton then moves the needles over to cover the surrounding areas of skin until he’s covered the entire treatment area.
With what kind of problems can microneedling help?
Vivace RF treatment can help with fine lines, wrinkles, creepy skin, skin tightening, and overall skin smoothing. It’s also effective for acne scar revision because the microneedles break up the scar tissue while the radiofrequency energy prompts you to make new collagen to fill in any skin depressions.
How many treatments do I need?
Most Maximum Wellness MD patients have a total of three treatments, each one month apart. Dr. Bolton can recommend a customized treatment plan to help you get the results you want.
Is there any downtime after microneedling?
There’s very little downtime. Most patients recover in anywhere from 12-48 hours. You may have some redness and minor swelling following treatment, but over the coming days and weeks, you’ll notice smoother and younger-looking skin.
What precautions should I take after treatment?
Dr. Bolton can give you specific guidelines, which typically include the following things:
- Drink plenty of water
- Stay out of the sun
- No acid-containing products on your skin
- Don’t do strenuous exercise immediately
You should wait for 12-24 hours before wearing makeup. It’s ideal to let your skin breathe for a full day after treatment. Use only ultra-gentle face.

Vivace Microneedling FAQs
What is Vivace RF Microneedling?
Vivace is an advancement to traditional microneedling skin treatments that combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency (RF). The procedure is minimally invasive and can improve the appearance of thin, crepey skin we develop with age. It is also especially effective on acne scarring. Microneedling and RF have been available for quite some time as individual treatments. By combining therapies, the Vivace device delivers significantly greater results than either treatment on its own.
Microneedling vs. Radiofrequency (RF)?
- Microneedling: The robotic handpiece, controlled by the physician, places microneedles in the precise level of your skin to deliver maximum benefit.
- Multi-Level Radiofrequency (RF): Once the needles are where they need to be, they deliver radiofrequency waves from under the skin.
When you receive a Vivace skin treatment, the microneedling and radiofrequency are both completed in seconds using a safe, sterile, precise robotic component. Some laser skin treatments carry a risk of hypo or hyperpigmentation, but there is no such concern with radiofrequency.
How often should I get Vivace Microneedling?
The Vivace microneedling procedure is recommended in a series of three (3) treatments atone-month intervals. To determine exactly what skin treatment regimen is right for you, it is best to get a consultation with a doctor at a medical spa.
Are Vivace Microneedling treatments painful?
The Vivace treatment is remarkably comfortable, rating only a 2 or a 3 on the discomfort scale. Before the treatment, a topical anesthetic is placed on the target areas of the skin, which numbs the skin and makes the microneedling and RF process virtually painless.
Vivace microneedling is an effective treatment for acne scars.
Is Vivace effective for ance scars?
Vivace microneedling has an amazing effect on both new and old acne scars. Traditional microneedling is an effective acne treatment, but Vivace goes even deeper into the skin, and the radiofrequency energy stimulates collagen production, achieving an even more significant result!
How long is recovery after microneedling?
Recovery is very easy and short for microneedling and ranges from 12 to 48 hours. You will see some redness and slight swelling for a few hours after the treatment. During the healing process, your skin remodels itself from deep down all the way up to the surface, resulting in a much smoother, more youthful appearance.
You should consult with your doctor regarding what to do during recovery from your Vivace treatment, but the following guidelines are standard:
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
- Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water.
- Avoid any skin products that contain acids.
- Avoid sweating too much to prevent the risk of infection
How soon after microneedling can I wear makeup?
It is advisable to wait 12 to 24 hours after a microneedling treatment before applying makeup. Your skin should be able to breathe for at least 24 hours. Applying makeup may result in additional inflammation, causing recovery to take longer. There is also a higher risk of skin infection from a contaminated makeup brush after microneedling because your skin is very open during recovery.
Can I shower after microneedling?
Waiting 12 hours to shower after microneedling is ideal to avoid the risk of infection while your skin’s channels are open. Most patients who receive a microneedling procedure can safely shower the next morning, but using hot water may make inflammation and swelling more noticeable.
DermaSweep®
A revolutionary treatment that uses bristle tips for tailored and optimal results, DermaSweep features a variable level vacuum pump that gently lifts the skin surface as the device sweeps away the dead layer of skin in a precise and controlled manner.
The skin is left smoother as the vacuum action of the wand stimulates blood flow and clears the pores. The increased blood flow encourages collagen formation, resulting in firming and toning the epidermis.
Using the Epi-Infusion option, skin-specific solutions (including specific hydration, skin lightening, and Vitamin C infusions) can be directly applied to the skin, leaving patients feeling refreshed and more hydrated.
